trademark

A trademark is more than just a logo or a name—it’s your brand’s identity. Registering a trademark protects your business from imitation and helps build trust with your audience. The trademark application process in India (or internationally) is a legal procedure that grants exclusive rights to use a particular sign, name, or symbol in connection with specific goods or services.

The first step in applying for a trademark is conducting a thorough search to ensure that your proposed mark isn’t already in use. Once confirmed, the application is filed with the appropriate trademark office—like the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trademarks in India. Key details such as the applicant’s name, brand logo, class of goods/services, and a power of attorney (if filed by an agent) are included.

After submission, the application goes through examination, publication, and potential opposition stages. If no objections arise or are successfully resolved, the trademark is registered, giving the owner exclusive rights for 10 years (renewable).
